Ere Ibeji

Ibeji is very common among the Yoruba tribe of African. Yoruba believed that Ibeji are special gift of Olodumare, this is the reason why they give them special attention. To give birth to a set of twin is a blessing and also an important thing and everyone is willing to. Your suffering ends the day you gives birth to Ibeji. People will be giving you gifts of money, cloths, food (beans and epo pupa (which they believed are the special food for Ibeji.) and other useful materials). Yoruba never engaged in killing of twin instead taking proper care of them, this may be the cogent reason why Ibeji is more in Yoruba land. All extended family of Yoruba has at least a set of twin.
In Ekiti part of Yoruba, they refer to Ibeji as ‘ore’, they believed that friends move together and the two children born at the same time must be friends

Twins, the offspring of Isokun
Nothing or useless children amongst the polygamist
Real children to the mother
they branched to the home of ragged persons
And changed their life to better
I ought to give birth to only one child
Fortunately, a set of twin comes my way
Maltreat me, so that I will continue following you
If you praise me, i will turn back
Ape on the tree.
